Calcite filter media is used to raise / neutralize the pH of acidic water. A nice thing about Calcite media is that it will not over correct the problem like some other medias. It’s capable of neutralizing water with a pH as low as 5.6.
Calcite is a naturally occurring calcium carbonate media. Upon contact with Calcite, acidic waters slowly dissolve the calcium carbonate to raise the pH of the water. Low pH water is real aggressive and will eat away copper plumbing, causing pin hole leaks and other damage throughout the home. An occasional backwash will prevent packing and channeling. Depending on the pH of the water and service flow rates, the Calcite filter media will need to be replenished from time to time as the Calcite dissolves away.
This is a 1/2 cubic foot bag (50 pounds) of Calcite Filter Media.
